Welcome to the start of another week. For most of us it means another day of sitting at a desk, in front of the computer. Here is a little nugget of italy to make your monday a little bit better. La Selva is a villa that is nested in the Tuscany country side. What I love about this house is that it is not just a structure, but a way of life. Here are some points of how to bring some Le Selva into your home:
1. Love your home: I think most of us just see our home a place and not as our very own sanctuary. Cherish, embrace, and savor your home. It doesn’t matter if you live in a small apartment or a large house. Invest in things that make you happy . They could be finds at a garage sale to the local chain store down the street. Items don’t have to be perfect, you just have to love them. Once we make a place our own it becomes like our favorite person, we just love to be with them.
2. Inside + Outside are 1: One of the features that makes the villa so amazing is how it connects to its surroundings. If your lucky enough to have outside space, treat it as another room. Make sure the inside has easy access and flow to the outside. Have seating or even a large table (like at the villa) to have dinners by candle light. The yard should be natural and not over landscaped. If you don’t have a yard, try bringing in nature inside with house plants, or seasonal flowers.
3. Like a hug: A great home is a place that you can celebrate with friends and family. How can you make people feel comfortable? Also, have your home tell your story. Design moments are a great opportunity to display treasures and photos. One example of a design moment could be, a picture, a map and maybe a cool object from a vacation. It tells people a moment in your life.
4. Food: Soon as I saw Maria making dough and cooking with fire, I thought I need to intern with her. Food is such an important aspect of a home. We should savor the ritual of cooking. A journey is not just about the destination, but how you get there. It should be messy, fun and everyone should be involved. Include the kids and have them help. Mostly, make it fresh and simple.
